Hello from the Washington D.C. Turkish Folk Dance Troupe!
The Washington D.C. Turkish Folk Dance Troupe was created in January 1998. The goal of the group has been to learn and perform a variety of traditional Turkish folk dances and to broaden the knowledge of Turkish culture in the United States, which it has pursued in full force since. Since its creation, the troupe has gained a great deal of popularity and continues to increase the number of performances it participates in every year.
In order to keep up with this increase of activity and interest, the troupe is currently accepting new members this season. Anyone who is interested is welcomed to attend one of the groups practices on either February 8 or February 15, 2004. We will not accept any other new members until the following season. The period for accepting is being kept short to fit into the troupe busy practice schedule. We appreciate your understanding on this matter. Membership to troupe requires a $15.00 fee per season.
The following is our practice and performance schedule for this season (February 8-May 15):
We will be focusing on learning the following three new regional dances (Gaziantep, Zonguldak girl, and Trabzon) and continue working on and expanding the choreographies of three of our older dances (Adiyaman, Ciftetelli, and Artvin).
The troupe will not be accepting any performance requests until the month of April. During the month of April, we will accept requests depending on the readiness of the troupe to perform. Between the months of May and September, we will do our best to accept all performance requests.
The troupe will go on a hiatus from its weekly practices July 15-September 6, 2004.
The troupes practices are held at George Mason Universitys Johnson Center between 4:00 and 7:00 p.m. February 2, 2004 practice will beheld in assembly Room G (third floor). You can find the directions the GMU campus at the end of this e-mail. For more information, please check out our website at http://www.turkfolkdc.com and feel free to forward this e-mail to all those you know that are interested in joining.
We look forward to seeing you there!
